Tracking Potential Name Conflicts
The writer can flag character and location names that look like duplicates or spelling variations. This is a review aid: it does not rename text or decide which spelling is correct.
Review Potential Conflicts
- Open a script document in the writer.
- In the Documents panel, select the alert icon below the estimated runtime to show Potential conflicts. The writer checks for conflicts when you open this list.
- Review each suggested pair. Character and location labels appear in uppercase to make differences easier to scan.
- Select either name in a pair to jump to that name's first occurrence in the document.
- Edit the relevant character cue or scene heading if the names should match. Close the list when you are finished; this removes the temporary highlights.
The check looks for close spelling variants among character cues and scene-heading locations. A suggested pair may be intentional, such as two different characters with similar names, so confirm it in context before changing the script. If no likely matches are found, the list says so.
Troubleshooting
The conflict list reflects the document as it is when you open it. After editing names, close and reopen the list to run the check again. A conflict highlight is temporary and does not change or save the screenplay.
