Importing And Exporting Scripts
The writer supports FDX, Fountain and PDF import and export. Import into the writer is separate from importing prepared scenes into a production breakdown.
Before Importing
Import replaces the current writing. Create a new document or use Duplicate first if you need to retain it. You need writing access; exports require Can export.
Import Writing
- Open the document that should receive the writing.
- Select Document Options → Import.
- Choose FDX, Fountain or PDF and select the file.
- Read any replacement prompt and confirm only for the intended document.
- Review headings, character cues, dialogue and scene numbers after import.
- Correct paragraph types in the writer and wait for the save to complete.
PDF text and layout are interpreted during import, so check the result carefully before using it for production preparation.
Export The Current Document
Select Document Options → Export → FDX or Fountain to download the current document in that format.
Create A PDF With Selected Documents
- Select Document Options → Export → PDF.
- Enter File Name.
- Add the documents you need from Available Documents to Selected (drag to reorder).
- Drag the selected documents into the intended output order.
- Remove any document you do not want included.
- Select Export and wait for generation/download.
The selection starts empty. A file name and at least one selected document are required. Check the exported PDF before distribution, especially after imports or when combining a title page and screenplay.
Troubleshooting
If paragraph types are incorrect, repair them in the writer before exporting or importing into breakdown. If an export control is disabled, ask the script owner to check export permission. A production breakdown import uses its own Scenes Detected review workflow.
