Tagging Scene Requirements

Tagging connects a scene's writing to the people and items needed to film it. Elements use category colours so you can distinguish different kinds of requirements.

Before You Begin

Import and build a screenplay in the current production. Element tagging and character tagging have separate permissions.

Tag An Element From Writing

  1. Open Script Breakdown and select a scene in the left list.
  2. Select the words identifying the requirement in the script.
  3. In Element Details, check Name and choose Type.
  4. If an appropriate existing element is offered, select it to reuse the record.
  5. Choose Apply to → Only this instance or All instances in this scene.
  6. Select Tag Element.
  7. Check the coloured tag and the Elements list for the scene.

For a requirement implied by the scene but not named in the writing, use Tag Element from the scene's Elements panel and enter its name and category.

Tag Characters

  1. Open the scene's Characters panel.
  2. Choose a person from Select a character to tag and use the tagging control, or open Tag Character to identify the character required.
  3. Review the characters listed for the scene.

Dialogue cues detected by import and manually tagged characters can be shown differently. Removal controls are not offered for every automatically identified character.

Tag Existing Cast

Use this after importing a script when existing characters are mentioned in action or dialogue but are missing from a scene's requirements.

  1. Check that the required characters exist in the production's Cast area and that their names match the writing.
  2. Open Script Breakdown → Tag Existing Cast.
  3. Read the name-matching confirmation and select Yes, tag them! to run it across the script, or cancel to leave it unchanged.
  4. Open the affected scenes and review their Characters panels.
  5. Add missed characters manually and remove incorrect manual tags where removal is available.

This matches character names, not performer contact names, and does not cast actors. A mention in dialogue does not necessarily mean the character must be present, so check each result. Characters implied by the action or named differently may need manual tagging. This control requires character-tagging permission.

Tag Existing Elements

  1. Check the names and categories of the records in Elements. Create any missing requirements by tagging them in a scene first.
  2. Open Script Breakdown → Tag Existing Elements.
  3. Read the confirmation and select Yes, tag them!.
  4. Review the coloured tags and Elements panel in each affected scene.
  5. Remove incorrect tags and manually tag requirements that were missed.

This attempts to match existing element names in action and dialogue throughout the imported script, reusing each element's category. It does not discover new requirements or reliably recognise synonyms: an element named “red suitcase” may need manual tagging where the writing only says “case”. Check ambiguous names carefully. This control requires element-tagging permission.

Change Or Remove A Tag

Select an existing coloured tag to open its details. Where available, update Description, Summary or Qty, select Update, or use Manage Element for the full record. Remove removes that tag; removing a scene reference is different from removing the element record across the production.

Troubleshooting

If a name already exists in the chosen category, the editor asks you to select the existing element or change the name. Reusing an existing record is preferable when it is the same physical requirement. If tags are missing, check both the selected scene and your tagging permissions.
