Highlighting Characters

Use the Characters list beside the script to follow one or more characters' cues and dialogue while reading. Highlights are a temporary viewing aid and do not change the screenplay.

Turn Character Highlights On Or Off

  1. Open a script document in the writer.
  2. Find the Characters list beside the scene navigator. Characters are ordered by dialogue-line count, with the most lines first.
  3. Select a character to highlight their character cues, dialogue and parentheticals.
  4. Select another character to highlight them as well; each selected character receives a different colour.
  5. Select a highlighted character again to turn off that character's highlight.

The list is built from character cues in the current document. It updates as you write, so a newly added character may take a short moment to appear.

Troubleshooting

If a character is missing, check that their name is written in a Character paragraph rather than in Action or Dialogue. If a character's lines are not highlighted, check that the dialogue follows a correctly named Character cue.
