Comparing Two Documents

Direct comparison is useful for reviewing a new revision against its source draft, or checking any two documents in the same script. It reads the latest saved writing in each document without changing them.

Before You Begin

The script needs at least two available documents. Save the writing in both before comparing. You need access to the comparison/history tools.

Compare Documents

  1. Save both documents and wait for their save status to finish.
  2. Select Document Options → Compare Revisions. You can also use Compare documents on the history page.
  3. Choose Base document (left).
  4. Choose a different document under Compare with (right).
  5. Select Compare.
  6. Review the change totals and writing in both columns.
  7. Select Swap sides to reverse the comparison, or Back to editor to continue writing.

Green highlighting indicates additions or updates in the right-hand document. Red, struck-through text indicates removals or replaced writing on the left. Totals count added, updated and removed paragraphs. On a small screen, scroll across the comparison to see both sides.

Troubleshooting

You must choose two different documents. No differences in the writing means the saved writing matches; revision colours, dates or document names do not necessarily imply different content. Changes still awaiting save will not appear. Use history when you want an earlier saved state of one document instead.
