Creating Budget Scenarios

Budget scenarios hold alternative cost plans. Each scenario contains budget entries, with individual cost lines beneath them.

Create A Scenario

  1. Select Budget → New Budget Scenario.
  2. Enter Scenario Name and select Create Scenario.
  3. Select Manage beside it.
  4. Enter the overall amount under Edit Budget and select Update Budget.

The overview shows Budget, Total and Remaining. Scenario names cannot be empty.

Add A Budget Entry

  1. In the scenario's entry row, choose Department.
  2. Choose Account and Tax Code where appropriate.
  3. Enter Summary and the entry's Budget allowance.
  4. Choose ATL or BTL for above- or below-the-line organisation.
  5. Select Add Budget.
  6. Open the entry using its management control to add cost lines.

The entry list groups Above The Line and Below The Line and compares Budget, Actual and Variance. Here, Actual is the total of the entry's cost lines; do not assume it is every payment recorded in Expenses.

Manage Entries

The entry's Budget Details lets you change department, Account Number/Tax Code, Tax Code, Summary, Budget and Category, then select Update. Budget and summary are required when updating; the budget must be numeric.

Use the removal control beside an entry only when you intend to remove it and have read its confirmation. Comments and supporting tabs are available according to access.

Troubleshooting

An entry allowance and its detailed costs are separate: setting a budget does not create any cost lines. Choose the production currency in its details; the budget pages do not constitute currency conversion or a full accounting system.
