Planning With Beat Sheets
Beat sheets can be personal, attached to a production, or linked to a document in the writer. Their columns contain groups, and each group contains individual beats.
Create A Beat Sheet Without A Script
Select Beat Sheets beside My Scripts for personal sheets, or Beat Sheets within the active production for production sheets. Select New Beat Sheet, enter a title, and select Create Beat Sheet. No script or document is required.
Personal sheets are private to their owner. Production sheets can be viewed, edited, renamed, and exported by the production owner and active production members. Only the sheet creator or production owner can delete a production sheet.
Use Back to Beat Sheets to return to the list, where you can reopen, rename, or delete a sheet. Script-linked sheets remain available through the writer.
Create The Structure
- Open a beat sheet from its list, or select Beat Sheets in the writer.
- Select Add Column and edit the column heading.
- Use the column's Add Group control.
- Edit the group heading.
- Use Add Beat in that group and edit the beat's title and body.
- Select text in a beat's body and use the formatting toolbar for bold, italic, underline, or bulleted and numbered lists.
- Use Image in the toolbar to upload an image into the focused beat body.
Arrange And Remove Beats
Drag the provided handles to reorder columns, groups and beats. Beats can move between groups, and groups can move between columns. Changes save after a pause.
Delete Beat, Delete Group and Delete Column ask for confirmation. Deleting a group removes its beats; deleting a column removes its groups and their beats. Read the prompt before confirming.
Export
Select Export PDF to download the board. Wait while it shows Exporting…. If export fails, use the displayed error message and try again.
Beat text and uploaded images are included when you save or export the sheet.
Troubleshooting
For script-linked sheets, a read-only board hides editing controls. Can access beat sheets, Can edit beat sheets and Can export are separate sharing choices. The board saves separately from the screenplay; it does not turn beats into screenplay scenes automatically.
