Scene Summary And Search Script

Use Scene summary to record what happens in a scene and its story timing. Use Search Script to find scenes and review summaries together.

Before You Begin

Import and build a screenplay in Script Breakdown. These controls are currently shown to administrator accounts; Search Script also requires breakdown import permission. If they are missing, check your access with an administrator.

Edit A Scene Summary

  1. Open Script Breakdown and select a scene from the left list.
  2. Select Scene summary above the script to expand the panel.
  3. Enter Long summary and Short summary.
  4. Complete Story day, Date, Time of day and Est. run time as needed.
  5. Pause typing and wait for the Saved on message before changing scenes or leaving the page.

Changes save automatically as you type. Select Scene summary again to collapse the panel. Story day and date describe events within the story; set filming dates with the schedule's day breaks. These fields describe the imported scene without rewriting the screenplay.

Search Script

  1. Select Search Script at the top of Script Breakdown to open Filter script.
  2. Type in Search scenes to filter by scene information, summaries or story details.
  3. Check the matching scene count and scroll sideways to see the remaining columns.
  4. Select View scene on a result to open that scene in breakdown.
  5. Use Clear search to show all scenes again.

The search filters the scene table, including headings and descriptions. Use it to locate scene information rather than assuming it searches every line of screenplay dialogue.

Edit Summaries In The Search Table

  1. Select a cell under Summary, One liner, Story day, Story date or Time of day.
  2. Enter the text. Summary corresponds to the scene's long summary, and One liner to its short summary.
  3. Leave the field, or press Enter, to save that change. Press Escape while editing to restore the field's last saved value.
  4. Wait for Changes saved. before closing the table.

Unlike the scene panel, the search table saves when you leave an edited field. Edit Est. run time in the scene panel; it is not an editable column in this table.

Troubleshooting

If the table cannot load, select Retry. If a save fails, the table keeps your text and highlights the field; select that field and leave it again to retry. In the scene panel, if no successful save message appears, keep a copy of your text and check the saved value before leaving. Clear the search if a scene appears to be missing.
