What is a talent release form?
A talent release form is an agreement signed by an actor, presenter or other on-screen participant that allows a production to record and use their performance, name, image and voice in a film and its marketing.
Why do I need a talent release?
Without written permission, you may not be able to distribute, screen or sell your film. Festivals, streaming platforms and insurers routinely ask for signed releases from everyone who appears on screen. A talent release protects both sides by recording what has been agreed, including how the footage may be used, for how long and in which territories.
What should a talent release include?
It should name the performer and the production, describe the role or appearance, set out the rights granted, record any fee or credit, and include signatures and the date. Documentary and interview projects will also want to cover how the material may be edited.
