What is a stripboard?

A stripboard is a scheduling tool that represents each scene as a strip containing key information such as scene number, location, interior or exterior, day or night, cast, page length and notes. Strips are arranged to create your shooting order.

Why do I need a stripboard?

Films are rarely shot in story order. A stripboard lets you group scenes by location, actor availability and time of day, so you shoot efficiently and avoid unnecessary moves. It also makes it easier to see the impact of changes and share a clear plan with your team.

What should it include?

Include the scene number, set or location, INT or EXT, day or night, cast IDs, page count, estimated time and notes about props, vehicles, stunts or special requirements. Many productions colour code strips by type.
