What is a shot list?
A shot list is a detailed list of every shot you plan to capture, usually organised by scene. It describes the shot type, camera angle, movement, lens, subject and any notes needed to get the shot right.
Why do I need a shot list?
A shot list turns your script and creative vision into a practical plan. It helps you work out how long a day will take, makes sure you do not miss important coverage and gives the camera, lighting and grip teams a clear picture of what is coming. It also helps you prioritise if time runs short.
What should a shot list include?
Include the scene number, shot number, shot type such as wide, medium or close-up, camera angle and movement, lens, location, cast, equipment, estimated time and notes. Many filmmakers pair it with storyboards for extra clarity.
