What is a prop continuity log?
A prop continuity log records each prop used in the film, which scenes it appears in, its position and condition, and how actors handle it. Photos and notes are often included.
Why do I need a prop continuity log?
Props have to look the same from take to take and scene to scene. Drinks should be at the same level, a book open on the same page and a broken item broken at the right point in the story. A prop log helps the props team and script supervisor reset correctly and spot errors before they reach the edit.
What should it include?
Note the prop name, scene number, character who uses it, condition, placement, quantity or duplicates, reference photo, and any changes during the scene such as spills, damage or consumption.
