What is a music declaration?

A music declaration is a record of the music used in your film. It lists each track, who wrote and performed it, who owns it, and what permission the production has to use it. It often works alongside a music cue sheet.

Why do I need a music declaration?

Distributors, broadcasters and festivals want proof that every piece of music in your film is cleared. A music declaration shows that you have checked, helps you spot gaps before delivery, and reduces the risk of takedowns or unexpected licensing fees later on.

What should a music declaration include?

List the track title, composer or artist, publisher or label, the timing and context of use, the type of licence held, and the territory and duration covered. Include a signature and date from the person responsible for the film.
