What is a media ingest log?
A media ingest log records how footage and audio are copied from cameras and recorders to storage drives. It tracks each card, camera, date, backup destination, file size and verification.
Why do I need a media ingest log?
Lost or corrupted footage cannot be reshot cheaply. A log makes sure every card is copied, verified and backed up before it is formatted or reused. It also gives your editor a clear record of what material exists and where it lives.
What should it include?
Record the date, shoot day, camera and card name, ingest time, number of clips, total size, backup drives used, checksum or verification status, the person responsible, and notes about any problems.
