What is a tech scout?
A tech scout is a visit to a confirmed location by the director and heads of department to plan how each scene will be shot. It follows the first recce and focuses on the technical detail.
Why do I need a tech scouting checklist?
The tech scout is where camera, lighting, sound, grip, art and production plan how the day will work. A checklist makes sure each department asks the right questions, such as where to place lights, how to manage sound, how much space is needed and where equipment will be stored. This avoids surprises on shoot day.
What should it include?
Include camera positions, lighting and power requirements, sound issues, rigging points, set dressing, unit base, parking, safety considerations and any actions assigned to each department.
