What is an HMU continuity sheet?
A hair and makeup continuity sheet records how each character looks in each scene, including hairstyle, makeup, facial hair, wounds, tan, sweat and special effects. Photos are usually attached for reference.
Why do I need an HMU continuity sheet?
Scenes are shot out of order, often across several days, so a character look must be recreated exactly each time. Without records, small changes in hairstyle or makeup can break the illusion on screen. A good sheet helps the hair and makeup team work quickly and consistently and gives the script supervisor a reliable reference.
What should it include?
Note the scene number, character, actor, look number, products used, hair and makeup details, injuries or effects, reference photos and changes during the scene.
