What is a costume continuity sheet?
A costume continuity sheet records what each character wears in each scene, including garments, accessories, condition and any changes such as dirt, tears or wet clothing. It often includes reference photos.
Why do I need a costume continuity sheet?
Films are rarely shot in story order, so it is easy for a scarf to disappear or a jacket to change between shots. Costume continuity errors are distracting for audiences and can be expensive to fix. A clear record helps the costume team and script supervisor dress actors consistently, even when scenes are shot days or weeks apart.
What should it include?
Note the scene number, character, actor, look number, garments and accessories, condition, photo references and any notes about changes during the scene. Update it throughout the shoot.
